The Call

Alison was only fourteen years old when she started watching her neighbor’s kids for some extra money. On July 9, 2010, she went to the home of the Peterson’s to watch their two kids. Derek who is 12 and Kayla who is 10. When the parents left they were happy and excited because of the father’s big promotion he just got at work, the excitement of it all led them to go out and a night to themselves. Alison told them to have fun and that she would see them when they returned home.

The Peterson’s left their house and Alison began the evening off by ordering some pizza since it was around dinner time. She used the money the parents left on the table for the pizza. When it arrived they all sat down on the couch eating and watching some movies. It was also summertime so their parents usually didn’t give them a bedtime.

While they’re viewing the film Aly’s cell phone rings, when she picks it up all she hears is raspy breathing. She says hello and again all she hears is breathing, the breathing sounded like the person on the other line most likely smoked or had bad asthma. She hangs up the phone and blocks the person’s number. Setting her phone down to watch a movie with the children she accidentally knocks over a cup of soda.

“Damn it!” she says looking at the children. “I mean shoot!” she says, trying to redeem herself. Quickly cleaning up the mess she notices the kids began to get sleepy and head upstairs for the night.

“I’m sorry you guys. You sure you don’t want to watch a movie tonight?”

“We’re positive Alison, we’re pretty worn out” Derek stated

“Okay if you want to watch one you know where I’ll be.”

“Sure, goodnight then.” Kayla says walking away.

“Sheesh, I guess I’m no fun anymore since they’re growing up. Alison says in her head.

Alison stayed downstairs watching random shows, videos on the internet and checking her social media.

“Woah! Haha, Jason Greenman it was about time they caught your sleepy ass. Jason Greenman charged in the rape and grooming of a 13 year old girl.” She reads out loud. “Damn that’s pretty intense.”

She opens the text messages for her best friend and types:

“Yo did you hear what happened to Jason?”

“No, what happened?”

“Bitch got arrested.”

“For reals?”

“Yes girl just saw it, it’s all over the internet.”

“Damn that’s crazy I knew that guy was a creep.”

“We both knew. Creeper is 27 and trying to get into girl pants under 18 years old.”

“Freaking crazy man! They better keep his ass locked up.”

“Shit, I agree.

“Are you babysitting tonight?”

“Yeah, the parents went out to have dinner just them.”

“It’s the Peterson’s tonight right?”

“Yeah-

Alison is cut off due to hearing a loud thud from upstairs.

“Shit, I gtg, ttyl.”

“Ttyl xoxo BFFAE”

“FE Bitch 😘.”

She quickly runs upstairs, gripping her phone tightly in her hand.

“Kayla? David?”

She gets to Kayla’s room first because it’s closer she opens the door and she's not in her bed. Her heart starts racing and just then she hears another loud thud.

“Kayla? David? Where are you guys? What are you guys doing up here? she says heading down the hall to check Derek’s room. She opens up the door and just like Kayla he isn’t in his room either.

“What the fuck kind of game are these kids pulling?” She says as her heart starts racing even faster until it turns into her panicking.

Alison races around the whole upstairs yelling the kid’s names. When she can’t find them anywhere in the upper part of the home she heads back downstairs and begins to look down there. When she enters the kitchen to see if they got hungry her cell phone begins to ring and she lets out a loud scream. She answers her phone and the voice on the other end has some heavy breathing.

“Go outside,” he says and then hangs up.

“The fuck?” She slowly walks outside.

Panning the yard to see if she notices anything off she hears a loud scream. Racing around the house and into the backyard. She sees the kids in the backyard, but something isn’t right. She looks over and notices that both Derek and Kayla are in the pool, not moving.

“NO!!!! DAVID! KAYLA!”

Quickly dialing 911 as she’s sobbing, leaving them on the phone she jumps into the pool and pulls out the kids one by one. Trying to perform CPR to save them. Checking their pulses Kayla had a faint one, continuing with CPR Kayla finally spit up a lot of water and coughed. She continued to perform CPR on Derek and checking his pulse she kept going but it was taking so long the Paramedics finally arrived and then took over. They attempted to try a few more times, checking his pulse, there was none, they tried a few more times and checked his pulse, his heart never restarted.

After about 20 minutes the parents ran into the backyard screaming and crying. Kayla’s Ambulance doors shut and leave. While her brother is being carried out of the backyard in a body bag. The parents get back into their car with Alison and head to the hospital.
